Creation Process

The glass making process:
Each evening we fill our furnace to the brim with our secret recipe non lead crystal batch and heat it to 2350 F. Early the following morning whilst most people are still asleep we begin final preparations for the production schedule ahead.

The vast majority of our products are freeblown, ie. without the use of moulds. Colour, if required, is added to the crystal while it is still molten and we then manipulate and coax it into the required shape, design and size using the same wooden tools that have been in existance for centuries. When we are fully satisfied with our work we transfer it to the annealing lehr where it cools overnight.

Are you intrested in glass blowing ? Irish Handmade Glass will be running glassblowing classes shortly. The classes will run for 3 hours per week over a 6 week period. If you would like to have the opportunity to learn the basics please contact us for details.
